Ashish Vidyarthi on his marriage: Everybody deserves dignity

Actor and blogger Ashish Vidyarthi had a simple registry marriage with Assamese fashion designer Rupali Baruah on May 25 in Kolkata. Soon after the news broke, a group of netizens flooded social media with unwarranted opinions on his marriage. Finally, Ashish commented on this on Friday.

In a Facebook live on Friday night, Ashish talked about his former wife Piloo Vidyarthi and said how he met Rupali. He said that he and Piloo hold no grudge against each other. They had a mutual divorce after 22 years of marriage. He also talked about the reason behind the divorce.

The actor said, “We all want to be happy at the end of the day. That is why I tied the knot with Piloo 22 years ago. We have a child, Arth, who is also 22. But both of us gradually understood that we were not happy. We see our futures differently. We tried our best to keep the marriage but felt that we would be a burden to each other. Hence we took the decision.”

Ashish also talked about Rupali. “I wanted to stay with someone, to hold hands with someone. This thought came to me two years back. I decided to marry again when I was 55. Then I met Rupali. We started talking and met last year. We felt attracted to each other and thought that we could spend our lives together,” he said.

He further added, “I am 57 and she is 50. But does it matter? Everyone can be happy in life, whatever the age may be. It is better to carry on with dignity.”
