It's that time of the year again. Love is in the air. On the occasion of Valentine's Day, Tamil Nadu theatres are known to release classic romantic films to delight the audience. In line with this tradition, the audience will get to witness the re-release of the 2018 romantic drama 96, starring actors Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles, directed by Prem Kumar.
The tickets will be sold at a cost of Rs 96 at Kamala Theatre in Chennai. The film will release on February 14.
It has been common in recent days to re-release films for special occasions, like to observe certain days or mark the films' anniversaries. In accordance with that, selected theatres in Tamil Nadu will be re-releasing 96, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha. 96 marked the first collaboration between Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha onscreen. They later worked in the 2019 Rajinikanth-starrer Petta.
The film, which was released in 2018, received a positive reception. One theatre in Chennai, Kamala Theatre, will sell the tickets at the cost of Rs 96 each. 96 revolves around two students from the batch of 1996 who meet each other two decades later. The film revolves around how the two individuals sort out their issues that once occurred during their separation. 96 opened to positive reception and reviews upon its release.
96 is written and directed by filmmaker Prem Kumar in his directorial debut. Besides Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan, the film also stars Aadithya Bhaskar and Gouri G Kishan in the younger versions, along with Bagavathi Perumal, Devadarshini, and Aadukalam Murugadoss rounding off the cast.

The film was shot by Mahendiran Jayaraju and N Shanmuga Sundaram, with editing by R Govindaraju. The music was scored by Govind Vasantha. The song Kaathalae Kaathalae, crooned by Chinmayi Sripaada and Govind Vasantha and penned by Karthik Netha, was one of the hit songs from the 96 album. The film is available for streaming on SonyLIV and Sun NXT. 96 was subsequently remade in Kannada as 99 by Preetham Gubbi and in Telugu as Jaanu by Prem Kumar.
