High school romances are always a rage no matter which era you decide to make them. It is always a rage among the youth. For instance, when the first part of the high school rom-com movie The Kissing Booth started streaming on Netflix, it was a rage among the youngsters. Female fans could never stop drooling over the bad boy handsome hunk, Noah Flynn. The audience was also instantly connected to the friendship shared by Elle and Lee that was carried from their mothers, which is just friendship goals. Irrespective of the mixed reviews received for The Kissing Booth instalments, we just can’t seem to stop watching the sequels they produce. With the release of the third instalment that came out today, we need a list of memorable scenes from the previous two movies, to reminisce and watch the third part, while being on “Kissing booth” mode the entire time.
Here are the top five moments in each of the first and second parts of The Kissing Booth.
The Kissing Booth (2018)
Let’s start with Elle’s narration of how she and Lee became best friends. Their mothers’ friendships were carried throughout their lifetime, to the extent of giving birth to Elle and Lee on the same date. That is just super cool. The intro also shows how their interest in dance came up with baby Elle and baby Lee stepping into the dance machine moving to the beats of the machine till they grew up to become teenagers. Ranging from adolescent Noah intro to her mom’s death, the narrative montages were amazing.
The long list of rules of friendship that Elle and Lee piled up over the years is strict and heartening at the same time. Having them ensures that they avoid complications in their friendships (which they end up getting anyway as they break each rule). But on another level, it also solidifies their friendship for a lifetime, just like their mothers.
This is a memorable moment for Lee that is worth it to be given a shoutout since the entire movie is mostly focused on Elle’s relationships. Being known as the lesser-known Flynn and getting used to it takes a lot of willpower. When Lee was booed at the kissing booth by people as they were promised Noah Flynn but got the other Flynn brother, Rachel (his future girlfriend) came up and kissed him and that was an adorable meet-cute moment between them.
This was what people have been waiting for the entire movie. What started as a prank set up by the mean girls for Elle, turned out to backfire them. Noah’s unexpected entry at the booth turned out to be great for the couple as they shared their first memorable kiss which eventually unravelled the feelings, they shared for each other.
Elle’s secret relationship with Noah eventually had to come out somehow, which felt like a betrayal for Lee as the most important rule of their friendship was broken - To not date best friend’s siblings. It was ultimately taken off from the list when Lee came to terms with it and accepted them being together.
The Kissing Booth 2 (2020)
This was by far the funniest scene of the movie, where Elle switches on the intercom by mistake, doesn’t realise it and starts to objectify the new transfer student Marco. To keep it decent, let me say that when she did a ‘fine forensic analysis’ of Marco’s workout video, the entire school was in for hysterical laughter. This scene, coupled with Lee’s athletic journey to the principal’s office to switch off the intercom was painfully hilarious to watch.
Now that Noah was at college, the best buds needed a new guy for their kissing booth, which was a queue for Marco’s entry. The deal to work the booth with them if he loses the dance battle led to a major realization for them. For they found out it was he who beat their untouched high score at the dance machine.
The intercom at the principal’s office seems to be an infamous place for revealing dark truths. Well, it’s not dark here as Lee uses this opportunity to let Rachel (and the whole school) know how he feels for her after they briefly break up. He let her know how important she is to him after she felt he gives more importance to his best friend than her. it was one of those grand gestures that some secretly yearn for in a relationship that was heartening to watch on screen.
Elle had to balance her long-distance relationship with Noah, her school life and the dance competition all that the same time. With Lee’s leg broken, she had to team up with Marco (with whom she also shared feelings). The heat-of-the-moment kiss they shared after their performance unravelled more drama after Noah saw it in person. Because every high school romance is incomplete without a ‘love triangle’ right?
The couple after realising their true feelings for each other shared their first real kiss (after the kissing booth one) at the gazebo during the first part. So it is just poetic when they do the same after getting back together at the end of the movie when she realises that Noah is always her true love.
