Superstar Rajinikanth's Arunachalam has completed 26 years since release. The action drama stars Rajinikanth, Soundarya and Rambha in the lead and is directed by Sundar C. Sundar C's wife, actress and politician Khushbu Sundar has now revealed that he was barely 27 when he made the film. She wrote on her social media handle, "It’s every Director’s dream to direct Rajinikanth & Kamal Haasan. My husband was a lucky man when he got the opportunity to direct Rajinikanth Sir at the very young age of 27. And it’s already been 26yrs. Arunachalam is a landmark in his career. Thank you for the wishes that have come his way."

The film is loosely inspired by Brewster's Millions, a novel penned by George Barr McCutcheon in 1902, under the pseudonym Richard Greaves. Arunachalam, which hit screens in 1997, is one of the biggest hits of Rajinikanth's career. It even went on to win three Tamil Nadu State Film awards.

The plot revolves around the titular character Arunachalam, who has to spend his millions of worth father's inheritance in a span of 30 days without revealing the reason why he was doing so. The innovative plot was a major hit among the audience. The supporting cast included Raghuvaran, Visu, Ravichandran, Jaishankar, VK Ramasamy, Nizhalgal Ravi, Senthil, Janagaraj, Manorama,  Ponnambalam, Vadivukkarasi to name a few.

Interestingly, just as Khushbu had stated, Sundar C's dream of working with Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, too, came true, when he teamed up with the actor for the critically acclaimed Anbe Sivam. The plot revolves around two men of contrasting personalities who travel together from Bhubaneswar to Chennai. The film delves into atheism, communism and altruism. Though the film didn't rake in the moolah at the box office, it has emerged as one of the cult films over the years. The film starred Kamal Haasan, Madhavan, Kiran Rathod, Nassar, Santhana Bharathi, Seema and Uma Riyaz Khan.
