The outpour of re-releases in Telugu cinema continues with the Pawan Kalyan starrer Kushi, which hits screens again on December 31. The 2001 release, written and directed by SJ Suryah, was the remake of the Tamil film by the same name, that starred Vijay and Jyothika. AM Rathnam of Sri Surya Movies had bankrolled the film in its Tamil and Telugu versions and tasted success with both of them.
Producer AM Rathnam, who is coordinating the re-release formalities too, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a grand opening for Kushi again. Several rare stills from the film, unveiled through the week, are transporting the audiences back in time, leaving them nostalgic. Kushi also starred Vijay Kumar, Nasser, Ali, Sudhakar, Sivaji in key roles and had a blockbuster album by Mani Sharma.
SJ Suryah, in a special video, released today, relived his Kushi memories. “Kushi is releasing in theatres after 20 years. I would call Kushi the biggest blessing from God. The film offers something new with every viewing. Everyone from art director Anand Sai to cinematographer PC Sreeram, Bhumika, composer Mani Sharma and producer AM Rathnam were an asset to the film.”
“On top of everything, Pawan Kalyan created such an impression with his energy, cute expressions and his social commitment. Even in a love story like this, he showcased his social responsibility with a song like Ye Mera Jahaan and a handful of dialogues. Please watch the film in theatres again and enjoy it,” he added. The director was also seen in a crucial special appearance in the film.
Kushi was one of the biggest hits in Pawan Kalyan’s career and consolidated his position as a star in Telugu cinema after successes like Tholiprema, Thammudu, Badri, Suswagatham. The star’s next release is Hari Hara Veera Mallu, a historic saga directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, for which he’s reuniting with producer AM Rathnam again. The film is expected to release in the latter half of 2023.
