Aranmanai 4 is here! Vijay Sethupathi and Santhanam to headline the fourth instalment of the horror franchise

It's official! The popular horror franchise Aranmanai is back with its fourth instalment. The film which is titled Aranmanai 4, directed by Sundar C, will be headlined by Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi and Santhanam. The team dropped a picture from Sundar C's birthday celebrations to make the announcement. The picture has now gone viral on social media.

This is the first time that Vijay Sethupathi will be seen in the Aranmanai franchise. Santhanam has been part of the earlier films and played a crucial role in providing the comic relief. Aranmanai 4 is said to be produced by Lyca Productions where the birthday celebrations of Sundar C was held.The news has come as a major surprise for the Aranmanai series fans.

The first film of the horror comedy released in 2014 and starred Hansika, Vinay Rai and Andrea Jeremaiah in the lead along with an ensemble supporting cast. The second film, Aranmanai 2 (2016) starred Trisha, Hansika and Siddharth in the lead and third film Aranmanai 3 (2021) had Arya,Raashi Khanna and Andrea in the lead. The film's director Sundar C appears in a crucial role in all the three films. All the films were box office successes and played a role in the horror comedy genre becoming a thing in the Tamil film industry. Though the plots are not necessarily connected to one another, the story usually revolves around an aranmanai (palace) haunted by supernatural spirits.

Sundar C's last outing was the multi-starrer Coffee with Kadhal which opened to negative reviews and was a disaster at the box office as well. The romantic drama starred Jiiva, Jai, Srikanth, Amritha Aiyer, Yogi Babu, Aishwarya Dutta, Divyadarshini, Prathap Pothen, Samyuktha, Ananth Nag and Arya in a cameo appearance. The film was written and directed by Sundar C and was bankrolled by their home banner.
