Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman is deeply impressed by filmmaker Aishwarya Rajinikanth's resilience in pursuing her ambitions in the arts, despite what he perceives as unjust and undue criticism. He acknowledged the challenges of being the child of a highly accomplished man, emphasizing the significant effort required to emerge from a famous father's shadow and establish one's own identity.
He alleged that Aishwarya has been subjected to unfair criticism, discouraging her in various endeavours. "Aishwarya, daughter of a superstar. Very, very difficult to be his daughter. I understand what you are going through. Whatever you do, you are criticised. You are criticised for doing a dance, making a movie and even wearing a dress. You have overcome all those and you showed what you are," Rahman said at the audio release event of Lal Salaam.
Rahman was referring to the time when Aishwarya faced relentless trolling after her Bharatanatyam performance at the United Nations on International Women’s Day in 2017. Her performance attracted widespread criticism and unsavoury memes on social media.

Aishwarya, however, has made a mark as a promising storyteller in the Tamil film industry. She made her directorial debut with 3 in 2012. Starring Dhanush and Shruti Haasan, the romantic tragedy has achieved a cult status among the fans of Tamil cinema.
She later went on to direct the crime thriller Vai Raja Vai (2015) and documentary Cinema Veeran (2017).
Lal Salaam will be her comeback to fictional storytelling after a gap of more than eight years.
The film holds a significant place in Aishwarya's career, considering the challenges she faced to bring it to fruition. Addressing the critical issue of eroding communal harmony in the country and set against a cricket backdrop, the movie is reportedly inspired by a real-life incident.
AR Rahman has scored the music for Lal Salaa. Actors Vishnu Vishal and Vinkranth have played the lead roles in the movie, while Superstar Rajinikanth has played an extended cameo. The film will hit the screens worldwide this Friday.
