After being available to rent for a few weeks on Prime Video, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is all set for its full-fledged OTT release. JioCinema will release the DC superhero film on May 21, 2024. Following the events of Aquaman (2018), the 2023 DC Comics superhero film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the 15th and last instalment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). A consortium of DC Studios, Atomic Monster, the Safran Company, and Domain Entertainment produced it.
Jason Momoa plays Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the James Wan-directed film. Patrick Wilson's Orm and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Black Manta are on a mission to prevent Manta from destroying his family and using the cursed Black Trident to heat up the planet. Meanwhile, Jason and Orm are on the hunt for the long-lost seventh kingdom of the seas. Nicole Kidman, Martin Short, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, Randall Park, and Amber Heard all have supporting parts.
In Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, King of the Seven Seas Arthur Curry faces his duties head-on, releasing an ancient force that has been dormant for centuries. Aquaman must establish an awkward alliance with an old enemy and set out on a perilous quest to save his family, kingdom, and globe from irreparable destruction after seeing the full impact of these evil powers.
For those who are unaware, Jason Momoa portrays Arthur Curry/Aquaman, the ruler of Atlantis, who possesses superhuman swimming speed and the ability to control and summon underwater creatures.
The producer, Peter Safran, referred to Arthur as the ultimate outsider and said that the character doesn't believe he's part of the surface world or Atlantis, adding that Arthur has never felt at home in either culture.
According to director James Wan, the film is a faithful sequel to Aquaman (2018), in which Arthur continues his journey as he protects his family and realm while juggling his roles as king of Atlantis and a parent. Arthur, the protagonist, is a superhero with human and superhuman abilities who finds himself in a high-stakes, epic struggle, according to Safran. Wan included Arthur Jr. because he thought it was a logical continuation of the first film; in it, he contrasted Arthur's kingly duties with those of a father.
The film's production budget was $205-215 million, and it earned $434 million worldwide despite reviewers' mostly poor reviews.
