Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, aka Aquaman 2, is finally on the big screens after what felt like a constant tsunami of controversies, rumors, and reshoots. The movie, which marks the end of the DCEU, was one of the most spoken about in the past two years because of the drama that happened around it. Now as it opens in theaters, the opening collections of the movie are out, and they are being called decent when compared with projections. But the bar is now so low that even the decent performance is much less than MCU’s "The Marvels."

About The Marvels:

Yes, you read that right. The Marvels, when it was released last month, had a very bothering theatrical run as its time on the big screen was being compared to "The Flag," which is one of the worst-performing superhero films of all time. The movie opened to $21.5 million at the domestic box office on day one, including the preview. Turns out the opening for "Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom," aka Aquaman 2, is even less than that in North America.

Aquaman 2 Box Office:

If the latest numbers circulating on the internet are to go by, Aquaman 2 has earned $14 million, inclusive of the previews, on day one in North America. This means the domestic collection of "Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom" is much less than that of "The Marvels." However, this is still being called decent because the movie was projected to earn $40 million in week one, and it is expected to bring in around $30 million by Sunday night.

However, what is bothering about the entire scenario is the fact that the first part, "Aquaman," released back in 2018, is to date the most successful standalone DC flick and one of the highest-earning Warner Bros movies of all time. It earned $1.1 billion at the global box office. And now, as Aquaman 2 is not even projected to reach close to the magic of its predecessor, it is upsetting.

What's Next:

This is also the end of DCEU which was majorly stamped by Zack Snyder. The film goes nowhere, and it is technically pointless at this juncture if there is no future for this arc. The buzz is now James Gunn and Peter Safran will recast Jason Momoa as Lobo in their DCU. This means this could very much be just a formality on the studios' end by releasing the sequel.
