Apple TV+ launched the maiden trailer of its much-awaited action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters earlier today, during a panel presentation at the New York Comic Con.
The new look offers a solid peek into the intense and fascinating world that's now evidently brimming with monsters and mayhem. Hollywood legend Kurt Russell leads the cast which also includes Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski.
Created by Chris Black, who developed the show along with Matt Fraction, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is set to debut on Apple TV+ on November 17, 2023.
The same trailer sheds light on various aspects surrounding the aftermath of the events shown in the 2014 film and reveals the secretive organization 'Monarch' is very much part of the reality. So are monsters and the story then hints at following two siblings who must tread in their father's footsteps to uncover their "family's connection to" Monarch.
Monarch will toggle between dual timelines of the 1950s and 2010s and its story will resume from the battle between Godzilla and the MUTOs that leveled San Francisco. As the synopsis of the show states, the core of the show is about the clues that the siblings find on their mission and how they are led to Army Officer Lee Shaw who, as it turns out, withholds a few secrets that could threaten Monarch.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, of course, is the new entrant to the shared universe or 'MonsterVerse' that comprises characters from the worlds of Godzilla, King Kong and other monsters. What was kicked off in 2014 with Godzilla, MonsterVerse now has four feature films (one of them, titled Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is scheduled to release in 2024) and two television series. Prior to Monarch, the creators released the anime-influenced series Skull Island which debuted on Netflix on June 22, 2023.
