Aparna Balamurali recently had a major fangirl moment, when she met actor Akshay Kumar on set of Soorarai Pottru remake. The Soorarai Pottru actress shared a picture with Akshay and penned this note, "When Bommi met Veer !!! ❤️The feeling was overwhelming. Thank you @akshaykumar sir for your time. For being such a joy!! Your words meant a lot to me. It was a pleasure to see you become Veer. Forever grateful to my @sudha_kongara ma’am for everything ❤️ Missed meeting you @radhikamadan! Can’t wait to see your magic on screen! ✨ #sooraraipottru #hindi #veer (sic)."

Sudha Kongara's Soorarai Pottru had Suriya and Aparna Balamurali playing the leads. The film is inspired by the life of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of low-cost airline Air Deccan and was produced by Guneet Monga. The Hindi remake is helmed by Sudha as well, with Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan playing the lead characters.

Interestingly, Suriya has done a cameo in the Hindi remake. The actor recently confirmed the news by sharing a picture with Khiladi Kumar. He had captioned it, ".@akshaykumar sir to see you as #VIR was nostalgic! @Sudha_Kongara can see our story beautifully coming alive again #Maara! Enjoyed every minute with team #SooraraiPottru Hindi in a brief cameo! @vikramix (sic)." To which Akshay replied, "Thank you brother @Suriya_offl. Loving every moment shooting for the retelling of an inspirational story like #SooraraiPottru. And being in Chennai is all (heart) despite our strict captain (sic)."

Soorarai Pottru released directly on Amazon Prime Video on November 12, 2020 and was one of the first big films in Tamil to release directly on OTT during the pandemic. The Tamil version had an ensemble cast including Paresh Rawal (marking his debut in Tamil), Mohan Babu, Prakash Belawadi, Karunas, Urvashi, Krishnakumar, Vivek Prasanna, Kaali Venkat, Dan Dhanoa to name a few. The film won critical acclaim and was even selected as one of the ten Indian films to be screened at the 78th Golden Globe Awards.
