Years of back-and-forth later, Anurag Kashyap is ready to release his film Kennedy (or at least hoping for a theatrical release), starring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone in the leading roles. Not just that, the filmmaker has further hinted at the sequel to his upcoming movie. What's more? This sequel is likely to be converted into a web series. He opened up about the movie, the idea about the web series and a lot more in a recent interview. Here's everything to know...
While we wait for Kennedy's release, Anurag Kashyap has already hinted at the sequel of the movie. He told The Hindu that a particular character (of course, the lead) will be elaborated on in the web series. "I have a sequel web series in mind where the character survives the events of Kennedy," Kashyap confessed in the interview.
Anurag Kashyap's Kennedy is based around the story of an undercover cop named Uday Shetty, played by Rahul Bhat (Sunny Leone plays the role of Charlie in the movie). The filmmaker revealed that there was one such man in the Mumbai Force, and his character stayed with him for a long time to come. While once detached from Kennedy (Kashyap’s five projects are on the backburner), the movie is finally moving and is cleared by censors too. The film was already screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, and is now hoping to see the light of the day in Indian theatres this year.
In the very interview, Kashyap revealed that he wrote Kennedy keeping Malayalam star Mohanlal in mind. Back then, it was a slightly different project and Kashyap even wanted Rajeev Ravi to helm the project. Since that movie never particularly took off, it was worked around for what we now know as Kennedy. The movie is a part of Zee Studios' slate for 2025 but is still without a confirmed release date. The film is likely to be a theatrical release once out.
