Anoop Menon reveals Jayasurya will be replaced in Beautiful 2, fans express disappointment

Malayalam actor-filmmaker Anoop Menon on Sunday took everyone by surprise with a movie announcement. He revealed that the sequel to his 2011 hit Beautiful will go into production soon, but the main star cast will have a significant change. While he will stay on the project as its scriptwriter and the lead actor, Jayasurya has dropped out of Beautiful 2.

Beautiful 2 will go on the floors soon

Anoop refrained from fully explaining the actual reason why the filmmakers have failed to retain Jayasurya for Beautiful 2, considering his character was the driving force of the 2011 drama. Anoop nonchalantly noted that Jayasurya will be "replaced" with a new actor.

"Badusha productions and Yes cinema company announces BEAUTIFUL 2..joining vkp and yours truly would be the same super talented technicians jomon t john,mahesh narayanan,ajay mangad,mridul nair,vinay govind,sajimon and ratheesh vega who were part of Beautiful 1...however this time jaysurya wont be part of the cast and he will be replaced by another suitable actor in accordance with the new story and script...shooting will commence in Vancouver by January 2024..," he wrote on his Facebook page. 

Fans are not happy

Responding to one of the comments to the post, Anoop revealed that Beautiful 2 was neither the prequel or sequel to its predecessor but a completely new stand-alone movie in the series. "...not a sequel or prequel ajee..it is a new one retaining the same ethos of the previous," wrote Anoop. 

However, many in the comments also expressed their disappointment with Anoop failing to retain Jayasurya for the second movie in the series.

Anoop had written Beautiful, which was helmed by V. K. Prakash. In addition to writing the screenplay, Anoop also played one of the lead roles in the movie. The movie was a noir thriller which had the screen treatment of a feel-good drama. The movie revolves around the friendship between a struggling and overly anxious small-time musician John (Anoop) and a rich quadriplegic Stephen Louis (Jayasurya). Their friendship is put to the test with the arrival of a very attractive home nurse played by Meghana Raj. 

Beautiful is streaming on Disney+Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video.
