Annie Murphy, John Cho and Christine Baranski have joined the lead cast of the upcoming animated series, Praise Petey. The show will be produced by Freeform, a network owned by Disney. The series will mark the network’s first animated project.

According to Deadline, the series will revolve around the story of Petey, a popular New York City woman who suddenly finds herself in an unpleasant situation. She strives to achieve redemption in a peculiar way, by using her fashion forward and trendsetter abilities to revamp her father’s small town cult.

Murphy stars as the titular character, while Cho plays a man who is a long time part of the cult. Baranski will lend her voice to play the character of Petey’s mother, a domineering editor of a magazine. The voice cast also includes Stephen Root who portrays the role of the absurd cult leader and Petey’s father. Other cast members include Kiersey Clemons and Amy Hill who all play eccentric cult members.

The animated series is created by Anna Drezen, who has served as a writer on the popular comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live. She has been nominated for an Emmy Award for her work on the show.

Drezen will executive produce Praise Petey along with Monica Padrick, Mike Judge and Greg Daniels.

Praise Petey will begin production some time next year.
