Nayanthara’s much talked-about culinary drama film Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food has finally been released on OTT - now streaming on Netflix. Helmed by debutant director Nilesh Krishnaa, the story follows the journey of Annapoorani (played by Nayanthara), who comes from an orthodox family and aspires to become a chef. However, things turn sour when she faces hurdles while chasing her dreams, mostly due to social norms. How Annapoorani breaks the mould forms the crux of the plot.
Annapoorani had its theatrical release on December 1, opening to mixed reviews from critics, who remarked on the film’s predictable and bland storyline. Nayanthara’s performance, however, was lauded by many. The movie scored decent numbers at the box office, and made its digital debut on Netflix - streaming from today (December 29).
Nayanthara starring Annapoorani’s plot
Annapoorani marks Nayanthara’s 75th film. The plot revolves around Annapoorani, a young and ambitious woman who aspires to improve her craft of cooking. However, due to her religious background, she faces hurdles especially while preparing non-vegetarian dishes.
Initially, Annapoorani refrains from telling her family about her culinary pursuits, as they wanted her to go to a business school and enrol for an MBA degree. As she embarks on her journey to fulfil her dreams, she meets with an accident that reveals her secret to her family. Amid following her dreams and convincing her family, she also lands an opportunity to participate in a cooking competition, which could potentially alter the course of her life. How Annapoorani moves past the obstacles to achieve her goals is what the story is all about.
Annapoorani’s cast and crew
Jai, who plays the male lead in the film, is seen sharing screen space with his Raja Rani co-star Nayanthara after a gap of 10 years. He portrays the character of Farhan, Annapoorani’s classmate in her culinary school.
Kannada actor Achyuth Kumar plays Annapoorani’s father. He is a strict Brahmin priest, who works at the Srirangam Temple. He forbids Annapoorani from pursuing her dreams, due to his religious beliefs. The cast also includes Sathyaraj, KS Ravikumar, Redin Kingsley, Renuka, Karthik Kumar, Sachu, Suresh Chakravarthy and Poornima Ravi. S Thaman has composed music for the culinary drama film.
