Director Shaji Kailas’ upcoming movie Kaapa seems to be loaded to the brim with talent. The movie features some of the best actors in the industry today including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali and Anna Ben.
The crime drama, which is extensively set in Thiruvananthapuram, also gave one of its female leads – Anna – an opportunity to explore the genre as well as play a different character from the ones that she has done in movies such as Kappela, Helen and Kumbalangi Nights.
In a recent interview ahead of the film’s release on December 22, the actress also explained that the movie, which is based on GR Indugopan’s novel Shankhumukhi, is biggest film that she has been part of.
“I was excited about the film because in terms of scale, it’s the biggest film I have done so far. Most of my scenes are with Asif ikka and we hadn’t done a movie together. So, I was looking forward to that too. Also, compared to the other character I have done, this has a lot of different shades and there’s also a mystery about her. That excited me a lot,” she said.
The film is produced by FEFKA’s writer’s union and has Jomon T John as its cinematographer. Kaapa also revolves around the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act that came into force in 2007. The movie, which marks Shaji Kailas’ second venture with Prithviraj this year after Kaduva, has the latter essaying the role of a gangster named Kotta Madhu.
Apart from the action scenes and ‘mass’ moments in the movie, Prithviraj had explained that the film’s core is its emotional sequences, which he believes, is also what will resonate with the audience the most. The actor also claimed that the film will be one of the better films in the crime genre that Shaji Kailas has made in his career.
