While promoting his latest film, Kannur Squad, Malayalam superstar Mammootty recently confirmed a project with Pulimurugan director Vysakh. Although he didn’t reveal details about the upcoming project, Mammootty denied rumours that the film will be titled Adi Pidi Jose. Speaking of the latest, Anjana Jayaprakash, who is known for her performance in Fahadh Faasil’s Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum, has been roped in to play the female lead in the movie. It’s thought be a mass comedy entertainer.
Earlier, Nayanthara was also rumoured to essay the female lead in the yet-to-be-titled project, scripted by Midhun Manuel Thomas. The film will start rolling in October, after Mammootty finishes his portions in Yatra 2, in which he reprises the role of YS Rajasekhara Reddy (the former Andhra Pradesh CM).
The Kottayam Kunjachan connection
Midhun had previously intended to make a sequel to the popular film Kottayam Kunjachan, starring Mammootty. However, due to a lack of a suitable script, the plan was abandoned. There are now rumours that Midhun will be revisiting the Kottayam Kunjachan sequel script for this project with Vysakh. However, Mammootty has recently clarified in an interview that the new film will not be related to his character in Kottayam Kunjachan.
Mammootty-Vysakh collaborations
The first film directed by Vysakh, Pokkiri Raja, featured Mammootty in the lead role and it was a hit. This success served as a strong start to Vysakh’s career as a director. He later directed Mohanlal in the film Pulimurugan and reunited with Mammootty for the sequel to Pokkiri Raja, titled Madhura Raja, which was also well-received at the box office.
Mammootty’s upcoming projects
Mammootty is currently enjoying the success of his latest release, Kannur Squad, an investigative thriller film directed by Roby Varghese Raj. He has also completed his part in the upcoming horror thriller film Bramayugam, directed by Rahul Sadasivan, who is known for his work on Bhoothakaalam. Going by the movie’s first look, Mammootty will portray a skilled black magic sorcerer. Additionally, the actor is also involved in the post-production stage of the game thriller Bazooka.
