It was March 2021 and the second wave of Covid was yet to hit Kolkata. Bauddhayan Mukherji teamed up with a small group of actors, including Anirban Bhattacharya, to make a short film, 251. The film is presented by Sohum Shah Films, with Sohum Shah being one of the producers. Recently, the 16-minute-long film premiered at the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK). The film also features Debashis Roy, Kajal Shambhu, and Nimai Ghosh.
Talking about the film, Anirban said Bauddhayan made the offer during the Covid period, by the end of 2020. “I instantly agreed as I wanted to work with him. I remember he narrated the script to me without looking at any notes or laptop. It was all in his mind. It was very intriguing. The shooting took place in March,” he said.
The poster shows Anirban in a PPE suit. “It is a short film and hence, I can’t talk about my character,” he said. How was his experience? “It was very nice. Bauddhayanda is a perfectionist and he focuses on every detail. It was a two-day shoot and I remember every bit of it even today,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bauddhayan’s production Whispers of Fire & Water was screened at the 76th Locarno Film Festival. The film is directed by Lubdhak Chatterjee. The team visited the prestigious festival this year.
On the other hand, Anirban has almost completed shooting Srijit Mukherji’s Dawsham Awbotaar. However, along with Jaya, the actor, and the director, will be travelling to North Bengal as they still have one day of shooting left. However, Srijit has been suffering from Dengue. By mid September, Anirban will start shooting Soukarya Ghoshal’s Rainbow Jelly part two.
