After a hiatus of two years due to the pandemic, the nightlong concert Raat Jaaga Tara is back this year. On January 28, some 50-odd musicians, including Pandit Tanmay Bose, Subhamita Bannerjee, Anindya Chatterjee, Silajit Majumdar, Joy Sarkar, Babul Supriyo, Upal Sengupta, Surojit Chatterjee, Rupankar Bagchi, Somlata Acharyya Chowdhury, Madhubanti Bagchi, Prosen, Kinjal Chatterjee, Gaurab Sarkar, Ujjaini Chatterjee, and others, will perform at the Science City Auditorium.
Raat Jaga Tara was incepted in 2018 with a theme ‘night’ where many musicians performed songs on that theme. After its roaring success, the theme for the next year was ‘pain’. After the show in December, the pandemic upset all the events for the next two years. Now it is back with a bang.
Upal is one of the show’s key organisers and is known to gather musicians for concerts to promote independent music. He said, “In 2018, it all started out of our love for music. We wanted to sing together in one concert. This is the busiest time in a musician’s calendar. Winter is the time for shows in Bengal. And yet many musicians came forward right from the first chapter of Raat Jaga Tara in 2018. Even today, when we reach out to our musician friends and asked if they would be interested in taking part, almost everyone agreed. I am looking forward to a great show.”
In one of its rare kind, Raat Jaga Tara showcased some top musicians in the country in one show. This year, there are more than 30 vocalists and 50-plus musicians. The show is scheduled to start at 8 pm and will go on till the next morning.
