Sandeep Reddy Vanga reveals that the conclusion of his debut film Arjun Reddy was originally meant to be slightly different from the one we saw.
Arjun Reddy (spoilers ahead), of course, ends with the titular character (played by Vijay Deverakonda) reuniting with Preethi (Shalini Pandey) following a long and testing separation. It then comes to light that Preethi is pregnant with Arjun's child, prompting the two to let go of the past and make a fresh start. The film then shows how Preethi becomes an integral member of Arjun Reddy's family as a song beckons the climax.
"(It was always meant) to be the same ending. Except that she doesn't return home. He (Arjun Reddy) would be waiting at the park every day and her Yoga sessions would be on and we see the end titles rolling up," shared the Animal director in a recent conversation media outlet, suggesting that he originally wished for Arjun Reddy to end on a sombre note.
"That is one climax. Another climax is she (Preethi) would be enduring labour pains and he would deliver the baby, because he is a doctor. But because of the budget constraints I had at the time, I could not afford to set up an OT (operation theatre) to shoot that ending," he added in the same conversation.
Well, one grows curious to know the impact that one of these two conclusions would have had on the film as a whole. Regardless, Arjun Reddy, and its Hindi remake, Kabir Singh, emerged as huge successes at the box office and the eventual 'happy ending' might have had a big role to play in those pursuits.
But both Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh are entities of the past for Sandeep Reddy Vanga who is now fully geared up with his next, Animal. The film marks his second outing in Hindi Cinema and thanks to his track record thus far he has the resources of the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and others.
