Walking past 'Gadar' lane

Let us jog a bit down the memory lane and give you a startling revelation about ‘Gadar’, which happens to be the first/ earlier part of the film. The film had the same lead pair in the form of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. But, did you know that, before signing the film’s leading lady Ameesha Patel, the film’s director had a few other actresses on his mind. In a recent interview with Bollywood Thikaana, film maker Anil Sharma revealed that, when they were doing the film ‘Gadar’, he had a lot of names of actresses on his mind. He even named them as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kajol and many others.

He also went on to add that, after he had narrated the film’s script to the actresses, a couple of them also had liked it, while a few had turned it down. Anil Sharma refrained from revealing the reason as to why a few actresses had rejected his script. He even revealed that the film’s producers had told him to make a choice between the (late) Amrish Puri and a leading lady who had agreed to do the film. He added that, since the film’s budget was tight, he chose Amrish Puri as Ashraf Ali. He also added that, there would not have been any film without him (Amrish Puri). The rest, as they say, is history!
