Angry Young Men documentary explores the iconic screenplay writer duo of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. The pair delivered a string of superhit narratives and ruled Bollywood for over a decade with around 24 films together. Their sudden split came as a surprise not only for the entertainment industry but also for fans who were expecting more of this robust pair. Recently, it was revealed that Javed Akhtar called for the split by citing their changing dynamics and growth.
Javed Akhtar takes the responsibility for initiating the breakup of the Salim-Javed jodi. In the documentary, he shares how the duo began their career together and used to spend a major part of the day in each other’s company. However, things took a turn when they started meeting new people and exploring their circles, which led to a halt in their meetings.
“When you start working together, you are new in the business, you don’t know many people. Perhaps, out of 24 hours, we were together for 18 hours. Then, went on to make new friends, and he (Salim Khan) also made new friends. Gradually, our circles started separating. Our evening meetings stopped,” Javed Akhtar revealed in the documentary.
However, the lyricist further cited that this was only among the minor reasons. The major one is the ‘fatigue’ that started showcasing in their work as observed by the Don writer.
“The major reason was that the spring of our career was drying up. Fatigue was showing in our work too. No doubt about that,” Akhtar added.
Salim-Javed worked together on 24 films, out of which 22 were mega hits and they etched their name as the historic duo for their fine craft. When asked about the split, Salim Khan shared that their partnership ended in a civilized way with no mud splattered on either of them.
“Even when people asked us why or how it happened, we said we don’t know, we don’t like to talk about it. We only speak about the good times we had,” Salim Khan said while reflecting on the end of their era together.
