Salman Khan on Farhan & Zoya Akhtar

Prime Video has now finally launched the trailer of Angry Young Men in Mumbai, just three days after the release date announcement. At the grand launch event, we caught Salman Khan talking highly of Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar.

Khan said, “As Zoya and Farhan came to me, to all of us with the initiative, and I thought that was the best thing that ever happened. And I believe that they (Salim-Javed) were the highest-rated writers back then, and even now. Ye toh achha hai they didn't pursue acting (it's a good thing that they didn't pursue acting).”

Farhan Akhtar’s perspective on the docu-series

At the event, Farhan Akhtar, the multi-talented actor, director, and producer, shared some memorable moments with his father Javed Akhtar. He said that his father once gave a 'small piece of advice' that in their family’s long tradition, sons never listen to their fathers. Hence, he urged fans to not listen to his words, but rather watch the docu-series, as he gave his best.

About Angry Young Men docu-series

Angry Young Men is a three-part documentary series that explores the influential partnership of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, the screenwriter-duo, who are credited with revolutionising Bollywood in the 1970s.

The series delves into their collaboration on twenty-four films—twenty-two in Bollywood and two in Kannada, and their invention of the iconic ‘angry young men' characters in Indian cinema. A cinematic embodiment of the era that catapulted actors like Amitabh Bachchan to stardom.

The documentary also chronicles Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar’s eventual dramatic separation in 1982.

Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar's collaborations

Salim-Javed's cinematic journey began with Rajesh Khanna's Haathi Mere Saathi. They were known for crafting complete scripts before commencing production.

Their collaboration with Amitabh Bachchan in the 1973 film—Zanjeer marked a turning point in their careers. It also solidified the trio — Khan, Akhtar, and Bachchan — as a formidable force in Bollywood. Other blockbuster hits written by the duo are Yaadon Ki Baaraat, and Haath Ki Safai.
