Aneethi: It's a wrap for Vasanthabalan's revenge action drama, details inside

We had earlier told you Vasanthabalan, whose last outing was GV Prakash Kumar-starrer Jail, was collaborating with Arjun Das on Aneethi. Now, the shooting has been completed, and the film is in the post-production stage. According to sources, Aneethi will be sent to the Censors soon, for the certification.

Aneethi features Arjun Das (of Master-fame) as a solo lead in a feature project, for the first time. Dushara Vijayan, who made heads turn with Pa Ranjith's Sarpatta Parambarai, is playing the female lead.

According to a report, published by Cinema Express, Vasanthabalan's usual collaborator GV Prakash is handling the music for Aneethi and has composed four songs for the album. “As an ode to Na Muthukumar, the director has used lines from the late lyricist's poem in one of the songs. Said to be a love track, the song is voiced by the music director,” the report states.

Aneethi features an ensemble cast that includes Bigg Boss Tamil-fame Suresh Chakravarthi, Vanitha Vijaykumar, Bharani, Pugazh, Aranthangi Nisha, Kaali Venkat, Arjun Chidambaram, Subramaniam Siva and others. Billed as a revenge action drama, the film has been shot in various locations in Tamil Nadu.

Aneethi is produced by Vasanthabalan and a few of his school friends under the banner UBoyz Studios.

The film is scripted by Vasanthabalan with dialogues by SK Jeeva.

After the realistic Veyil and Angaadi Theru, Vasanthabalan went on to make Aravaan. “I have been branded as a director who makes small films. I had this strong urge to come out of it and make a big film. I thought about whether I should make an action film or a serious film or a period film,” he told Rediff.com.

Vasanthabalan is also known for Kaaviya Thalaivan (2014), which had Siddharth and Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran in titular roles. "At times, the idea of a film is so good you wish it were more than the film it eventually became. Kaaviya Thalaivan may not have been ahead of its time or a cult classic, but there was certainly a film in there somewhere that could have been one for the ages," states a piece, published by Film Companion. The film, chronicling the life and times of theatre artists, has music by AR Rahman.
