Anarkali Marikar on Gaganachari: I was excited to play the role of an alien and the film has a lot of comedy in it | Exclusive

Anarkali Marikar is all set to star in one of the most interesting films of her career, in the form of Gaganachari. The film will see the actress essay the role of an alien, and the star had coloured her short hair a striking blue at the time for the role. In a recent conversation with OTTplay, Anarkali opened up about the film.

The actress had finished filming Gaganachari back in 2020. The fact that it was a role no one in Mollywood had attempted before was one of the things that appealed to the actress about the role. “At the time I was very excited to be offered the part of an alien, a role no one in Malayalam cinema has ever done before”, said Anarkali.

She went on to say “The film was an experimental one and to be a part of an experimental film would definitely be a highlight in my career. And it was such a different role. That's how I came to be a part of Gangachari. It is a film which is taken in a mockumentary style and it has a lot of comedy. It's not a serious sci fi film at all, and it has a lot of references to a number of old films as well.”

When asked if audiences can expect the film’s release this year, Anarkali said “Yes, yes. I believe that the film will be released this year, maybe in May or June”.

On her upcoming projects, Anarkali revealed that she is a part of Vijay Babu’s upcoming production. The actress will also be seen in the upcoming Aneesh Upasana directorial Janaki Jaane, which also stars Navya Nair.

Anarkali was last seen opposite Lukman Avaran in Ashraf Hamza’s Sulaikha Manzil. The film was released in theatres on Monday.
