When a journalist, played by Kishore, meets someone for an interview one evening, the last thing he expects is to see the interviewee dead. But that’s exactly what happens in Anamadheya Ashok Kumar, a narrative thriller written and directed by Sagar Kumar, which releases in theatres on February 7. The trailer of the film, which also stars Harshil Koushik in a pivotal role, as the investigating officer, is out now and provides a sneak peek into the what, where and how of the crime, but not the who and why.

Given that it is established that there were only 3 people in the house at the time of the crime and Kishore’s character is the only surviving one, the needle of suspicion, obviously, points towards him. But the question really is whether he is really the culprit, or is being framed and is, therefore, a victim? Could it also be that he’s only a witness? These are the questions that Harshil has to find answers to.

At one point, Kishore remarks that in a crime, if the actual culprit is not to be found, the police tends to pin it on anyone they can find, implying that the same situation could be unfolding in his case too. Also starring Kantharaj Kaddipudi, Sudheendran Nair, Veeresh K M, Gagana, Nagaraj, among others, Anamadheya Ashok Kumar title is inspired by the Indian legalese for any unidentified or anonymous person – the equivalent of John Doe in American and British legal systems.

Kishore has been quoted as saying that besides getting to play a journalist, a profession that he respects, what the filmmaker intends to convey through the film is what appealed to him most. Given that it was a film made within budgetary limitations, Kishore felt that it was his responsibility to be a part of it, to do his bit in keeping content-driven cinema alive.
