Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s latest angry Instagram post about helping newcomers in the industry has taken netizens by surprise. The critically acclaimed director seems fed up with mentoring "random creative geniuses". Here’s what the director of Gangs of Wasseypur wrote on Instagram later today.
Anurag posted a message on Instagram about charging people who want to work in the film industry a consulting fee. "I wasted a lot of time trying to help newcomers and mostly ended up with mediocre s**t," he wrote in his note.
He added, “So, now onwards I don’t want to waste my time with meeting random people who think they’re creative geniuses. So, I will now have rates.”
Detailing his rates, Anurag quipped that he would charge Rs 1 lakh for a 10-15-minute meeting; Rs 2 lakh for a 30-minute meeting, and Rs 5 lakh for a one-hour-long meeting. Justifying his stand, Anurag mentioned, “That’s the rate. I am tired of wasting time meeting people. If you really think you can afford it, call me or stay the f**k away. And all paid in advance.” He also added the caption, “And I mean it Don’t text or dm or call me. Pay and you will get time. I am not a charity, and I am tired of people looking for shortcuts.”
Reacting to her father’s post, Anurag’s daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap, wrote, “Forwarding this to everyone in my dms and email who keep sending me scripts to forward to you 😂.”
Bandit Queen director Shekhar Kapur came out in Anurag’s support and commented, “Honestly Anuraag .. I often feel the same way!”
Actress Kubbra Sait added, “Amen!!!!!!!!!”
MTV Roadies contestant and TV actor Ayyaz Ahmed jokingly asked Anurag Kashyap, “Ser, comments padhke acknowledge karne ka kya charge hai?? 😂😂”
Likewise, Rock On!! actress Shahana Goswami posted, “But Babu wouldn't people who can pay for your time more likely waste your time as much , if not more.. ? I agree with the first part but then maybe don't meet anyone.. let destiny make you meet your collaborators accidentally?”
Anurag Kashyap frequently works with up-and-coming talent and has a history of mentoring enthusiastic filmmakers. His most recent directorial endeavours were Kennedy, starring Sunny Leone and Alaya F, and Almost Pyar with DJ Mohabbat. Aashiq Abu's forthcoming film Rifle Club, directed by Abu, will feature Anurag in his first Malayalam film as an actor.
