Amit Sadh, known for his ability to play distinct characters, will be seen playing a challenging role of a photojournalist in his upcoming short film Ghuspaith–Beyond Borders. This one honours the spirit of renowned brave photojournalists like Danish Siddique, who risked their lives to serve the people. Written and directed by Mihir K Lath, Ghuspaith–Beyond Borders tells the story of Manav, a photojournalist working in a country ravaged by militancy and a dire refugee crisis. The short film takes place on the border between India and Bangladesh.
When Amit Sadh agreed to play Manav, Mihir knew he had found his Manav. "Amit and I were aligned from our very first meeting when I explained my vision to him, the kind of themes my movie was dealing with, and the way I wanted to invigorate the viewer into this high-tension human drama. He said yes to me before even reading the script. It was his decision that allowed Ghuspaith to be made."
The short film's principal photography took place over four days in Maharashtra, with Amit Sadh, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and Pamela Bhutoria forming the ensemble.
"It is a brave attempt to understand the pain and horror that must have filled the last moments of Danish Siddique," said Shakun Batra, who is presenting Ghuspaith under his banner Jouska Films. "It takes enormous courage, in my opinion, to bear witness, and Ghuspaith is an attempt for all of us to understand the strength required to cross borders in pursuit of humanity. That is our goal with the film."
As an actor, Amit Sadh felt it was a great opportunity and honour to explore and make this short film. "Honestly, I am very fulfilled and happy that I made Ghuspaith with Mihir and now that it is coming out, we are going to the Sundance Film Festival and showing it to audiences.”
The short film has Sanchit Balhara on music, and Reed Garber on cinematography. It is produced by Girish Arora, Vikram Khakhar and Mihir Lath in association with Jouska films; and S Ramachandran. Ghuspaith–Beyond Borders also features Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Pamela Bhutoria and Korak Samanta.
Further, Amit added, "When Mihir came with the story, I discovered that we are making the short film to honour the photographer's journalists of the world's journalists, like Danish, who was killed by the Taliban in Afghanistan while reporting. I was familiar with Danish before, and I believe it is courageous of all people who report on war and crime. It takes a lot of guts to be in a situation where bombs are exploding and bullets are flying in all directions."
