Amid Sivakarthikeyan-D Imman row, #MeToo activist Chinmayi slams slander campaign

Singer and #MeToo activist Chinmayi Sripaada has weighed in on the ongoing controversy, involving actor Sivakarthikeyan and composer D Imman. She took to X, formerly Twitter, demanding people exercise sensitivity and decency while talking about matters concerning a woman.

Chinmayi revealed that she phoned Valaipechu Bismi to discuss the kind of language he used while talking about the personal conflict between Sivakarthikeyan and Imman. She also noted that her efforts to raise the level of discourse failed as Bismi remained "rude from the get-go"

"He (Bismi) was pretty firm on his stance, he has different rules - when the man he wants to protect is the aggressor, in my case, Vairamuthu - I was the evil one. He was completely defensive and ennoda karuthula naan maara maatten. Women are like this only types," she said in her statement.

She also slammed Bismi's recent tweet in the wake of Imman's controversial interview, accusing Sivakarthikeyan of betrayal . "But when he wants to slander someone and if he benefits from it - anyone can be made a villain. He happened to post something on the lines of ‘someone who’s looked as a brother behaving like a horrible person is the worst kind," she added.

Chinmayi's activism in Tamil cinema

It seems that Chinmayi felt attacked by Bismi when she spoke about the alleged sexual harassment she faced at the hands of the celebrated poet Vairamuthu.

At the height of the #MeToo movement India, Chinmayi expressed solidarity with women who accused Vairamuthu of sexual misconduct. Subsequently, she also claimed she was also one of the victims of Vairamuthu's alleged "predatory" behaviour.

Chinmayi's comments on Vairamuthu garnered her serious backlash and she continues to deal with the consequences of sharing her story. It's noteworthy that the dubbing opportunities in the south Indian cinema dried up in the wake of her allegations.

Imman accuses Sivakarthikeyan of 'betrayal'

Imman courted a huge controversy after accusing Sivakarthikeyan of betraying his trust. The actor-composer duo have worked on several movies in the past and they are said to have also shared strong personal rapport.

However, their relationships seem to have been soured recently. A few months ago, Bismi, a popular Tamil YouTuber, was the first to claim about the alleged betrayal that Sivakarthikeyan committed against Imman. However, neither Imman nor Bismi have shared the nature of the betrayal, leaving room for various interpretations.

Imman's ambiguous remarks have led to wild theories casting aspirations on Sivakarthikeyan's character. Some people have come out in Sivakarthikeyan's support, slamming Imman for not failing to provide full clarity on the matter.
