A lot of people still think Ameesha Patel was the best choice to play 'Sakina' in the Gadar series. Her portrayal of a Muslim girl who falls madly in love with a Sikh man during the partition still captivates audiences to this day. The duo faces numerous obstacles on their path to reconciliation, yet their performance never fails to impress. The recent headlines highlighted the conflict between Ameesha and Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma. The filmmaker claims that Ameesha has distinctly different ideas about the types of roles she should portray.
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ameesha made news for teasing Gadar 2 director Anil about her reluctance to play a mother-in-law on screen. The actor made it quite obvious to the director via her X (previously Twitter) handle that she was not interested in taking the role, regardless of the salary offer. Ameesha wrote to Anil that she wants to express her firm belief in her autonomy in choosing the types of roles she plays on screen. Since this is a film and not a real family, she gets to choose her actions and inactions onscreen. No matter how much money he offers her—Rs. 100 crores—she will never play a mother-in-law in a film, no matter how much respect she has for him.

In other posts about Anil's interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ameesha directly addressed the director. The actor expressed her belief that the filmmaker appeared to have misunderstood the tale and climax, which he had self-filmed. Like she did in the original Gadar 23 years ago, she made it clear that "Sakina" would perpetually be a wife to her "lovely Tara" and only a mother to "Jeetey." Ameesha went on to say that the three of them would always be at the centre of the film and franchise.
Ameesha reiterated in a separate post that fans would be unhappy to see their "Tara" and "Sakina" become in-laws. The actor went on to say that she respected the filmmaker even though she didn't agree with him. Ameesha wrote that fans don't want to see Tara and Sakina as father-in-law and mother-in-law; she also wished Anil the best of luck for his latest venture, Vanvaas, which stars Nana Patekar, Simrat Kaur, and Utkarsh Sharma. The actor shares their enthusiasm for Tara's role as a superhero and hero alone. As they celebrate Vanvaas today, may it be a success for him. Ameesha stated that it is a special day for Anil, and she hopes that everything goes well for him.
The remarks that Anil made during an interview with Siddharth Kannan were the catalyst for Ameesha's two consecutive posts in which she respectfully slammed him. The actor expressed her ire at the significant reduction in her screen time in the sequel compared to the original. Ameesha, according to Anil, just couldn't accept her character's inevitable ageing, he added. If 'Sakina' was indeed 'Jeetey's' mother, he claims, she would inevitably become his wife's mother-in-law.
A further statement from Anil followed, in which he acknowledged Ameesha's efforts to support herself, but she was still an actor. The filmmaker similarly compared Nargis, who played a mother in the film Mother India at the age of 26, to her. In a separate interview, Ameesha brought up her disagreements with the director and said she refused to interact with him while filming. The actor insisted that the issues had not affected their professional relationship and that she still held him in high regard.
