Ambuja, which is releasing in theatres on July 21, is Kannada actress Shubha Poonja’s second collaboration with director Srini Hanumantharaju, after Kelavu Dinagala Nanthara. But what makes it extra special for Shubha is that Ambuja marks a milestone for her – the suspense thriller is her 50th film and sees her play a crime reporter, which is an interesting and powerful role. “There is a cute bubbly nature to her, as well as a serious side too,” says Shubha about her character. The actress says that what she liked about the role is that beside trying to report on an incident, she also tries to solve the mystery. “I found it easy playing this character, but now, it is up to audiences to say if I have done justice to it,” she adds.

While Shubha is not keen to divulge too much about the film, since it will be in theatres this Friday, she says that the team has explored the medical mafia, as well mysterious missing cases of young women as part of the narrative, which becomes the backdrop of the case that she investigates along with the hero.

Speaking about the fact that she has been doing a lot of thrillers of late, Shubha says that it is not a conscious choice and that she’s just going with the trend. “Ambuja, for that matter, has a crime element, as well as horror and comedy too and that is what I liked about it,” she says. In fact, the actress says that when Srini first approached her, she wasn’t too keen on doing yet another horror thriller, but he insisted that she listen to the entire story and take a call. “Now, when I look at the finished product, I believe it has all the elements that will appeal to famiy audiences,” she says.
