Amaran, the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer biopic on Major Mukund Varadarajan, is now running in theatres successfully. While the film majorly revolves around the life of Mukund, his army career, and the love story with his wife Indhu Rebecca Varghese, a slight mention of this Tamil film called Anbe Sivam, has further added a layer of love to the film.

The lovely connection between Anbe Sivam and Amaran

At a glance, you may ask what is common between Anbe Sivam and Amaran? Of course, there is Kamal Haasan who acted in one and produced the latter under his banner Raaj Kamal Films International. But both the films stand apart with their content. While Anbe Sivam, as the title suggests, is all about love and a man who is full of it that all it takes are a few words of affirmation to even make the man who came to kill him, throw away his weapon, Amaran is a film that comes straight out of real events, a man so passionate to join Indian army, serve his nation and in doing so, sacrificed his life.

But there is more to it. In an interaction with Amaran team, before the release of the film, Indhu who was also in the panel, pointed out how Mukund’s favourite film was Anbe Sivam, and how Mukund would be happy that a film about him has been backed by none other than Kamal Haasan himself.

Anbe Sivam reference in Amaran

At one point in Amaran, as the 44th Rashtriya Rifles are on their way for a mission, they discuss films. Movie titles like Enthiran and Thuppakki galore in their conversation, but Sivakarthikeyan’s Mukund mentions Anbe Sivam as his favourite film.

Anbe Sivam, which stars Kamal Haasan and Madhavan in the lead roles, is directed by Sundar C with a script penned by Kamal Haasan himself. The film majorly revolves around two strangers who meet by accident, as they are made to travel to their destination together. As the plot progresses, the connection between them unravels. Anbe Sivam is a film that isn’t your typical macho hero film, nor one that warrants you to be one. Instead, it is a film that brims on love and conversations, moments created through strange occurrences and situations.

When Amaran mentions Mukund’s favourite film is Anbe Sivam, it might be only a passing reference, but talks a lot about the man himself. Mukund’s job might involve guns and shootings, but like shown in Amaran, it was all about love, the love he had for his country, and the love his family had on him. So, in a strange way, Amaran and Anbe Sivam does have a connection, the one based on love.

Anbe Sivam is available for streaming on Aha Tamil and OTTplay Premium. Amaran is currently running in theatres and will soon be available on Netflix.
