With Amaran starring Sivakarthikeyan running successfully in theatres, the film exhibitors in Tamil Nadu have requested the producers and distributors of the film to delay the digital release of the film by eight weeks. Amaran's post-theatrical streaming has been bagged by Netflix, which is yet to announce the OTT premiere date.
In a letter dated November 13, the Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors Association wrote a letter to the makers of Amaran, including Sivakarthikeyan, producer Raaj Kamal Films International, and distributor Red Giant Movies. Congratulating on the success of the film, which has been having a phenomenal run at the box office, with family audiences thronging to theatres, film exhibitors have requested the team of Amaran to postpone the OTT release of the film by at least 8 weeks.
"As veterans of the trade, we believe you would take a favourable decision in the best interest of the film as well as the industry as a whole to extend the theatrical exclusivity of the film. This would sweeten the box office success of the film as well as set an example for future films and boost the trade,” the statement read.
Amaran has been having a successful run, and with the exhibitors making their request, the team of Amaran is yet to decide on the request.
Amaran is based on the life of the late Major Mukund Varadarajan, a commissioned officer in the Indian Army's Rajput Regiment. He was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his operation with the 44th Rashtriya Rifles battalion. Sivakarthikeyan plays the lead role in the film, with Sai Pallavi playing the female lead.
The film is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and has music by GV Prakash Kumar. Amaran has collected over Rs 200 crore within ten days of release. It hit theatres for Diwali on October 31.
