Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi starrer Amaran is one of the most-watched Tamil films of 2024. The film focuses on the true-life story of Major Mukund Varadarajan. He was a commissioned officer of the Indian Army's Rajput Regiment, who was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra for his gallantry during an anti-terrorist operation while on deputation to the 44th Rashtriya Rifles Battalion. On December 31, Janhvi Kapoor took to her Instagram story and shared a still of Amaran featuring Sai Pallavi and Sivakarthikeyan. The actress chose the film to end the year 2024.

Praising the film, Janhvi wrote, "Late to this but what a magical, poignant and moving piece of cinema. What a way to end the year - watching the most heartwarming and heart breaking film of the year."

More about Amaran

It is a biographical war film focusing on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, an Indian soldier who was martyred during the 2014 Qazipathri Operation in Kashmir. The film is set against the backdrop of the 2014 Qazipathri operation, where Major Mukund Varadarajan led a group of soldiers in a war against Pakistan. The film follows Mukund's journey as he discovers himself and inspires his team.

The film stars Sivakarthikeyan as Major Mukund Varadarajan, and Sai Pallavi as his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese. The cast also includes Rahul Bose and Bhuvan Arora in key roles.

Notably, Amaran is based on the book series India's Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, which includes a chapter on Major Mukund.

The film was released in theaters in October 2024. Now it is streaming on Netflix.
