On the occasion of Sivakarthikeyan's birthday, the makers of his upcoming film revealed that the title of SK 21 is Amaran. The film will have the actor play the role of Major Mukund Varadarajan, the leader of the Indian Army's 44th Rashtriya Rifles Cheetah Company in Jammu and Kashmir.
The film is directed by filmmaker Rajkumar Periasamy, who recently revealed the reason and story behind how the film got its title. Amaran is backed by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International in association with Sony Pictures Films India.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rajkumar revealed the meaning of the film's title. "Amaran is the first word that I wrote for the screenplay of this film, as the title. It means Immortal, Warrior and Godly!" he wrote. It is to be noted that the Sivakarthikeyan project shares its title with the 1992 action gangster film starring Karthik in the lead role. The film was written, directed, and produced by K Rajeshwar.
Rajkumar also credited Rajeshwar, Gautham Karthik and Karthik for helping him acquire the title. “At this moment I’d like to thank Director K.Rajeshwar sir for magnanimously agreeing to give this nostalgic title for us. Thank you sir. Means a lot to me! And thank you my dearest @Gautham_Karthik & @ArtisteKarthik sir for reaching out to him and vouching for me! Thanks a ton,” the director added. The director has earlier worked with Gautham Karthik in the 2017 action drama Rangoon.
Sai Pallavi plays the female lead in Amaran, marking her first collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan. Amaran has music by GV Prakash . The cinematography for the film will be handled by Ch Sai, with R Kalaivanan as the editor. Once it finishes its run in theatres, Amaran will stream on Netflix. However, a release date has yet to be announced.
Sivakarthikeyan will play the role of Major Mukund Varadarajan, the leader of the Indian Army's 44th Rashtriya Rifles Cheetah Company in Jammu and Kashmir. He was a commissioned officer in the Indian Army's Rajput Regiment and was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his operation. A release date for the film is yet to be announced.
