Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles, is all set for its world premiere on Netflix. Helmed by Imtiaz Ali, the biopic is based on the life of Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila. The movie chronicles the humble beginnings of Chamkila and his increasing popularity that allegedly led to his assassination along with his wife Amarjot Kaur and their two band members in 1988.

Plot

The film portrays his undying dedication and belief in his talents, which made him the highest record-selling artist in Punjab. But his lyrics attracted a lot of criticism from the public and is said to be the reason for his assassination, along with his wife and two other band members.

During a conversation with Pinkvilla, director Imtiaz Ali revealed that he was initially unsure of casting Diljit Dosanjh in the film. He said, "I thought he might not be able to do it, etc. So I didn’t approach him in the beginning, but it’s a little later that I did, the moment I spoke to him, it was just like a different chapter.”
