Actress Amala Paul is back in Malayalam after a hiatus. While she is part of some big films such as Aadujeevitham and Christopher, her next release will be Athiran director Vivek’s thriller Teacher, in which she plays the lead role.
In a recent press meet held in Kochi, the actress also opened up for the first time about her roles in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Aadujeevitham, for which she had first shot almost four years ago, and her first movie with Mammootty, Christopher.
“I have known him since I began acting, he's one of my favourite directors and a great human being. I read Benyamin's book after he approached me and I liked it a lot. That’s how I became part of the film,” she said.
Amala essays the role of Sainu, wife of the movie’s protagonist Najeeb who gets stranded in Saudi Arabia for years after leaving Kerala for work. “My portions are over and the movie is also complete. Sainu was a beautiful experience as I got to play a character in the 80s,” she said.
The actress, who was last seen in the movie Cadaver, also revealed that she is now “tired of thrillers” and is looking to be part of films in other genres. Her upcoming Malayalam movie Dwija that revolves around a woman’s fight against all odds is part of that plan.
However, Christopher was too good an opportunity to miss. “The most special feeling about the movie was to work with Mammukka. I am a huge Mammukka fan. It's also the first time I am working with Unni chettan. It's a big film, but I can't reveal much about the genre,” she said.
Christopher, which is expected to hit theatres in January 2023, also has Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sneha as the female leads. Vinay Rai, Jinu Joseph and Shine Tom Chacko are also part of the cast of the movie, which has Mammootty essaying the role of a vigilante cop.
