Despite making war films with massive budgets in Malayalam including Keerthi Chakra, Kurukshetra and Kandahar, it’s Picket 43 that still arguably stands out in director Major Ravi’s filmography. Premam director Alphonse Puthren too stressed on this through a social media post on Wednesday.

The movie, which had Prithviraj Sukumaran and Javed Jaaferi in the lead, revolved around an Indian soldier and a Pakistani soldier, who guard a picket in Kashmir. How the duo forge an unlikely friendship while also realising each other’s sacrifices for the country form the plot of the film, which is also scripted by Major Ravi.

Alphonse, who has been active on his social media account, put out an open post to Major Ravi asking him to do a film like Picket 43 again. The filmmaker recalled how he watched it the first time thinking it was a war film and ended up liking it showed “a different perspective” of soldier through people like Major Ravi, who had served in the Army. The movie is available to stream on JioCinema, MX Player and Sun NXT.

He also wrote whether he should ask Prithviraj to tell Major Ravi to do something similar in the future. Major Ravi responded to the post, saying he was surprised by Alphonse’s comments. He also shared the news that he has been working on something like Picket 43 for the past four years. The director said he will narrate the script to Alphonse before it goes on floors.

Major Ravi has been working on a script revolving around the clash between the Indian and Chinese troops at the Galwan River in 2020. Earlier this year, the filmmaker had confirmed to us that he has approached Unni Mukundan to play the lead role of a soldier who was part of the clash, which resulted in the death of 20 Indian army personnel and several of their Chinese counterparts.

Meanwhile, Alphonse is gearing up for the release of his next film Gold, which has Prithviraj and Nayanthara as part of the cast.
