Mohanlal's character in Jailer has been a topic of discussion ever since the film released in theatres. The actor plays Mathew, a crime lord who wears costumes that evoke the style of the 1970s and 1980s. Many celebrities and actors have showered praises on Mohanlal's look and performance in Jailer. Now Gold director Alphonse Puthren took to his Instagram sharing the climax look of Mohanlal in Jailer. Posting the monochrome image of Mohanlal's character in Jailer, Alphonse exuded desire, and also the confidence, to style the senior actor in a similar manner so as to please his many million fans. He also expressed his wish to cast the actor in the sequel of Shobhraj released in 1986.
Shobhraj is an action thriller in Malayalam starring Mohanlal as an underworld don who evades Interpol. The film which features Mohanlal in dual roles is the remake of the Hindi film, Don, starring Amitabh Bachchan. Don was also remade in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu apart from Malayalam. In Hindi, the film was made a franchise with Shah Rukh Khan appearing as Don in two instalments.
Earlier the personal stylist of Mohanlal, Jishad Shamsudeen, revealed that the costumes of Mohanlal in Jailer were inspired from a character in the Narcos series. Narcos is an American series that tells the tale of infamous drug lord, Pablo Escobar and other drug cartels which plagued Columbia. The director of Jailer wanted Mathew to look like Escobar but instead, the look of another character in the same series, Helmer Herrera aka Pacho Herrera, became a reference point.
The previous venture of Alphonse was Gold starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara in lead roles. The movie co-produced by Prithviraj Productions revolves around the life of a mobile shop owner after he stumbles upon a substantial fortune. The film went on to become a box office failure and garnered negative feedback from both critics and audience. The upcoming movie of Alphonse has been titled Gift and will star Sampath Raj, Kovai Sarla, and Magalakshmi Sudarshan. The songs of the movie which has already started its filming will be composed by Ilaiyaraaja.
