Alone, Iratta to Pakalum Pathiravum: All you need to know about this week’s Malayalam OTT and theatre releases

This week packs another treat for the Malayalam film audience, with movies featuring superstars such as Mohanlal and Kunchacko Boban being among the multiple releases on OTT and theatres. From Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas duo’s Alone to twin Joju George films, Iratta and Adrishyam, those in the mood for streaming movies have films of several genres to choose from.

Rajisha Vijayan has two releases this week – Kunchacko Boban-starrer Pakalum Pathiravum and Sreenath Bhasi’s Lovefully Yours Veda, both theatricals, but belonging to different genres. Here’s the complete list of Malayalam movies that you can pick from as your weekend watch.

Pakalum Pathiravum

A wildlife photographer, who is travelling from Kochi to Mysore, decided to stop near a village in Wayanad border that also faces a Maoist threat. How his presence affects the life of a family, the police and villagers form the plot of the Ajai Vasudev directorial, which has Kunchacko Boban and Rajisha Vijayan in the lead.

Alone

Release platform: Disney+ Hotstar

Motivational speaker Kalidasan moves into an apartment in Kochi at the peak of COVID-19 pandemic. As soon as he moves in, he begins hearing voices of a mother and a daughter. While those around him blame it on his alcoholism, Kalidasan sets out to discover what happened to the duo in this single-actor movie starring Mohanlal and featuring the voices of Manju Warrier and Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Iratta

Release platform: Netflix

After police officer Vinod is found dead with three bullet wounds in a police station, three cops are held as suspects. His twin brother Pramod then sets out to investigate the case that traces Vinod’s history with the officers as well as his own and discovers some haunting revelations in the process. Joju George plays a double role in the film, helmed by Rohit MG Krishnan.

Lovefully Yours Veda

Release platform: Theatre

This campus romance, directed by Pragesh P Sukumaran and written by Babu Vailathoor, traces Veda’s eventful college life. The movie has Rajisha Vijayan essaying the titular role along with Gautham Vasudev Menon, Venkitesh, Anikha Surendran and Sreenath Bhasi.

Adrishyam

Release platform: Amazon Prime Video

After a girl goes missing, several groups of people are tasked with investigating what happened to her. Among these are a police team as well as a private investigator instructed by a politician. Directed by Zac Harriss, this multi-starrer has Joju George, Narain, Sharafudheen, Anandi, Athmiya Rajan and Pavithra Lakshmi as part of the cast.
