The buzz around Pushpa 2: The Rule is so intense that new headlines are emerging every minute. The film is the talk of the town for various reasons, one of which was its planned release in 3D, alongside 2D and other formats like IMAX. However, when the film hit theaters on December 5, the 3D version was notably absent because the cut wasn’t ready. It was initially speculated that the 3D cut might be ready in time for the second week of release. However, it now appears that the 3D version won’t debut in the second week either. Still, there is hope, as new reports suggest when audiences might finally expect it.
For those unaware, reports before the release of Pushpa 2 clarified that the Allu Arjun starrer would not be released in 3D during its first week. Despite this, advance bookings for the 3D format had already begun, and tickets were sold. To accommodate the situation, theaters screened the film in 2D for those shows and refunded the cost of the 3D glasses to the audience.
Now, it seems the movie won’t hit screens in 3D during the second week either. According to sources, audiences might need to wait until the fourth or fifth week for the 3D version.
A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama stated, “There will be no 3D version available in cinemas from the second week as well, as planned. The theaters have opened bookings for the second weekend in the normal 2D version, IMAX 2D, and 4DX versions.” The source added, “We haven’t been given a specific reason for the delay. However, there are murmurs that the makers might release the 3D version in the fourth or fifth week. This could provide another incentive for fans to revisit the film in theaters with 3D glasses, which would hopefully lead to a jump in collections.”
Pushpa 2: The Rule, a sequel to the 2022 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise, was one of the most anticipated Indian films of 2024. The pre-release buzz alone hinted at the movie’s potential to shatter records, and it didn’t disappoint. What makes its success even more remarkable is that the film, despite releasing on a Wednesday, had no holidays during its first week apart from a single Sunday.
Despite this challenge, Pushpa 2 has emerged as the undisputed box office champion of 2024. According to Sacnilk, the film has now broken another record, becoming the fastest Indian movie to gross ₹1000 crore at the worldwide box office. With this achievement, the film has crossed a significant milestone and is now primarily competing with itself.
