All We Imagine As Light: Payal Kapadia's film trimmed for its OTT release? Here's what we know

After its limited theatrical release in India, Payal Kapadia's movie All We Imagine As Light had its OTT premiere. The film, starring Divya Prabha and Kani Kusruti, was recently released on Disney+ Hotstar. Buzz is that some scenes of All We Imagine As Light were altered for its digital release on the streaming platform. Additional disclaimers relating to the consumption of cigarettes and alcohol were also added to the film's OTT draft. 

All We Imagine As Light trimmed for OTT release?

All We Imagine As Light was reportedly trimmed for its OTT release on the streaming platform. "About 30 seconds of the film has been trimmed, but none of the key scenes have been tampered with. Even a contentious scene involving frontal nudity has been left untouched. With that said, at a later point in the film, when the characters are seen drinking, a disclaimer has been added. This wasn’t in accordance with the recommendation of the CBFC but an additional [call] taken by the platform," a source told Mid-Day.

An insider from Disney+ Hotstar told the tabloid that the norm is to upload whatever is given to them. Changes are rarely made. However, when there is an S&P (standards and practices), they abide by it. It is used to self-regulate content on streaming. Since the platform is liable for what it shows, the insider added that a legal clearance is due on original and acquired content.

Written and directed by Payal Kapadia, All We Imagine As Light starred Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridu Haroon. Produced by Thomas Hakim and Julien Graff, the movie opened to a positive response upon its theatrical release in India. The film initially had a limited release in Kerala before its nationwide release.
