Alia Bhatt on stepping into Executive Producer role for Poacher - Focused on what I could do to amplify the show’s reach

Alia Bhatt is the executive producer of Poacher, which is directed by Richie Mehta. To her amusement, she says that it's a fancy word and is not concerned with jargon. She has already cast the part and is, in essence, pouring her heart into a story that deeply touched her. On a personal level, she reacted to the show with a "wow."

About Poacher

Poacher is an investigative thriller that focuses on the widespread ivory poaching in Kerala. Mehta, known for Delhi Crime (2019), created and directed it. The series stars Nimisha Sajayan, Roshan Mathew, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya. The Amazon Prime Video offering is Alia's first series, but she became a producer in 2022 with Darlings.

During an interaction with Mid Day, Alia said that for Eternal Sunshine Productions and herself, it's an unprecedented event. They were brought in later on for this initial project. They want people to see the story, and the most important thing is whether they can have any kind of impact on it. Alia also revealed that to be an executive producer, one must support and invest in content that they have a personal investment in. Since she wasn't involved from the start, the actor tried to figure out how to make the show more accessible.

The powerful storytelling in Poacher made Alia's decision to back the series easy. Plus, she finally got to work with filmmaker Mehta, whom she had wanted to work with for a while.

Poacher will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 23, 2024.
