The makers of Mirzapur confirmed in October that the Amazon Prime Video series would be made into a film. After three successful seasons, the makers did the unthinkable by announcing Mirzapur—The Film. An announcement promo was shared online, featuring Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, and Pankaj Tripathi. In a new interview, Ali revealed why team Mirzapur decided to turn the series into a film.

Ali Fazal on Mirzapur - The Film

Ali Fazal will reprise the character of Guddu in Mirzapur - The film. Speaking with Mid-Day, the actor revealed the thought behind making the successful show as a movie. "The idea is to take it to the people whose story it is. There are many who aren’t fully tuned into OTT," he said.

The web series, which premiered in 2017, shed light on the power tussle between gangs in Uttar Pradesh. Kaleen Bhaiya's domination is challenged by Ali Fazal's character in the series. Continuing the conversation, Ali mentioned that Mirzapur resonated with the masses as it was one of the few shows that told stories of the soil.

"We talk so much about stories of the grassroots, but we don’t make them well. This is that one story. It connects with people because it could be a story from your neighbourhood, of people who have been pushed to the wall. This was the first time OTT dived into the depths of our country," added Ali.

The actor further said that Mirzapur connected viewers with the 'people from nooks and alleys' of the country. According to him, it filled up a void that opened up in the decade before that.

On Ali Fazal's work front

On the work front, Ali Fazal has a couple of exciting projects lined up. The actor will be seen in Anurag Basu's Metro... In Dino, Rajkumar Santoshi's Lahore 1947, Mani Ratnam's Thug Life, and Rahi Anil Barve's Rakht Brahmand. His upcoming movie Girls Will Be Girls is produced by him along with his wife Richa Chadha.
