Akshay Kumar's Kesari: Chapter 2 has appeared to spark a debate in the British parliament. The movie, which touches upon the topic of Jallianwalah Bagh massacre, seems to have forced Britain to have an introspection over their actions from ages ago. Back when India was under the British rule, innocent lives were lost in the massacre and now, in 2025, the Nation is analysing whether they should issue an apology to India for the unruly actions.
British MP Bob Blackman has demanded that Britain issue a formal apology to India for the Jalianwallah Bagh massacre. As the black day comes closer to 106th anniversary, he addressed the matter and put forth his views about how Indians deserve a formal apology for what happened. "In 2019, then Prime Minister Theresa May recognized this was a stain on British Colonial rule in India. But could we have a statement during government time? The anniversary will be on April 13th this year when we’re in recess, so could we have a statement from the government admitting what went wrong and formally apologizing to the people of India?," he was heard saying in the parliament.
Akshay Kumar and R. Madhavan's Kesari: Chapter 2 discusses the Jalianwallah Bagh massacre at length. Back on April 13, 1919, General Dyer ordered troops to fire on a peaceful crowd that was enjoying their picnic in Jallianwalah Bagh. 1,500 lives were lost, and 1,200 people were injured on the fateful day. Kesari: Chapter 2 is also inspired by the story of C. Sankaran Nair, the lawyer who challenged the British Raj to expose the truth.
The Karan Singh Tyagi directorial releases in theatres on April 18, 2025.
Among the many other movies that Akshay Kumar has picked, there is one in particular that we recommend you definitely watch.
