Akshay Kumar to return for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Rowdy Rathore 2? Here's what we know

Back in 2012, Akshay Kumar enthralled the audience with his dual avatar in Rowdy Rathore. It was directed by Prabhu Deva and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Lately, a lot of noise around its sequel is doing the rounds. Names like Akshay Kumar, Shahid Kapoor, Siddharth Malhotra, and Tiger Shroff have popped up several times. But it looks like the makers are yet to finalize the cast. The new report suggests that currently, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his team are in the scripting stage.

A while ago, Pinkvilla reported that the sequel of the cop-based action entertainer is very much happening as it is in the scripting stage right now. Bhansali, who is busy directing Love & War starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, has signed Kannada film director Prem to work on the script. The report suggests that he is quite excited about Rowdy Rathore 2 and he locked the core plot of the film a while back. 

The source shared that the basic idea has been in place for quite some time now and SLB was looking for the right partner to team up on the second installment of Rowdy Rathore. His thoughts aligned with Prem, and they are working towards developing the script of Rowdy Rathore 2. The source also said that the cast will be locked once the screenplay is in place.

The source told the portal, "Prem will full fledged move into the pre-production of Rowdy Rathore 2 after the release of KD – The Devil. The film is expected to take off sometime by the end of 2025, and the casting will begin from Summer next year. Right now, the energies are being invested to develop a script that does justice to the legacy of first part."

Will Akshay Kumar return in Rowdy Rathore 2?

Since the makers are busy working on the script, no actor has been finalized for it yet. The source further revealed, "We shall know that at the right time. It could be Akshay Kumar, a new hero or who knows, a two-hero film too."

Well, it will be interesting to see if Akshay makes a comeback in Rowdy Rathore 2 or not! If you wish to rewatch the first part, it is available on Netflix.

However, a new report by News18 suggests the contrary. A source informed the portal that there is no such development. The source added, "There are many names who have been wanting to be associated with the mega project, which is touted to be one of the most massy films of all times but unfortunately, there’s no progress so far in that direction."
