Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has been synonymous with the Hindi remakes of Mohanlal and Priyadarshan duo’s Malayalam superhits over the years. So, it was only fitting that the actor served as the chief guest for the Hindi trailer launch of Mohanlal’s directorial debut Barroz in Mumbai on December 11.
Before the Hindi trailer launch of the movie, Akshay explained that Mohanlal had briefed him of Barroz’s synopsis the other day, and also offered to keep a preview of Barroz exclusively for the Bollywood star.
“We have all seen a lot of 3D films before, but this movie was shot in 3D and that’s commendable. There are few movies in India that are made with keeping the children in mind,” said Akshay. “I am sure it will be a wonderful experience in theatres and I am personally waiting to see what kind of reactions this film will get. This will make a lot of children very happy.”
During the event, Mohanlal was also asked about the Akshay-Priyadarshan combination in Bollywood remakes. “Priyadarshan’s first film was with me and after he completes another 2-3 movies, he will be doing his 100th film, which will again have me in the lead. It’s probably the first time in the world – a director’s first and 100th film has the same actor,” said Mohanlal.
On Akshay Kumar playing the protagonists in most of the Hindi remakes of yesteryear hits, the Malayalam superstar said, “You can’t compare actors. They are totally different – in terms of the costume, characters they are playing or even their body language. I have seen most of Akshay’s movies that Priyadarshan has remade and he is a brilliant actor. He is a 100% professional actor. I am not that professional.”
On his part, Akshay also lavished praise on Mohanlal and how he has been a huge fan of the South superstar. He even recalled Mohanlal’s debut film Manjil Viranja Pookkal, asking him on stage, “Didn’t you play a villain in your first film? I remember that film as well as Chithram. I have seen those films even though I didn’t know the language (Malayalam).”
Barroz will hit theatres on December 25 and will be available to watch in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
