Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is known for picking projects that are based on inspirational real life stories, persons and events. He's been the face of a number of patriotic films along with those highlighting socially-relevant issues. With films like Airlift, Rustom, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Pad Man, Kesari, Gold and Mission Mangal among others to his credit, the actor often finds himself at the centre of memes and jokes on social media for his knack of taking up such inspiring subjects.
It all seems to have started last year with the viral memes on Akshay considering to essay Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra in his biopic and went on to him wanting to play 126-year-old Swami Sivananda. The latest one doing the rounds these days is on him preppring to play midnight runner Pradeep Mishra.
When quizzed about his reaction to the same, the actor told the Hindustan Times that he laughs if the meme is funny. "Aur nahi toh kya, normal hai…joke acha hota hai toh aap bhi haste ho na (What else, it’s normal. If the joke is good, laugh)?" he said, adding that who doesn't like a good laugh?
The actor said that he takes it as a badge of honour to be at the centre of such viral memes on social media. He shared that he couldn't be happier as it means that over the years he has managed to make a space for himself where he could fit into such wide variety of roles. He feels that this has helped him to stay relevant with the audience.
Akshay also mentioned that he's seen the latest meme featuring him as Pradeep and revealed that it's actually a still from his upcoming film with Bhoomi Pednekar titled Raksha Bandhan.
On the work front, after delivering a hit with Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi last year, the actor was most recently seen in his latest titled Bachchhan Paandey. The movie didn't perform at the box office as per the expectations. The actor also admitted that he would have liked the film to do better, but he doesn't blame Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files for the poor performance of his film. The Kashmir Files came as a storm and "we came in the eye of it," the actor told the publication.
