In Prithviraj, Akshay Kumar takes on the role of a king for the first time in his film career. The actor recently opened up about the role and how different it was from his previous work.
In conversation with Firstpost, the actor talked about how filming Prithviraj was a very different experience for him as he had never played the role of a king before. Praising the king, Kumar recounted how progressive Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan was. The actor revealed that Chauhan was a great proponent of gender equality, asking his consort Sanyogita to sit beside him on the throne and rule by his side. Even though his decision had earned him the ire of many people, the king had refused to budge.
Kumar also talked about the respectful way the king treated his enemies and foes. “I can’t believe my luck that I got to play this king”, he said. The actor also talked about how his mother used to teach him history during his school days, and wished she could have seen the film as well.
The upcoming film is directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and based on the Braj language epic poem Prithviraj Raso. Kumar revealed that the director had gone through the text thoroughly for almost 18 years and had not taken any creative liberties when adapting the text.
In addition to Kumar, the upcoming film also features Manushi Chhillar, Sonu Sood and Sanjay Dutt as Sanyogita, Chand Varai and Kaka Kanha, respectively. Ashutosh Rana and Sakshi Tanwar also essay pivotal roles in the film, which is bankrolled under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
Prithviraj is slated for release in theatres on June 3, 2022.
