Devdas, one of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's best memorable films, marked its 20th anniversary on Tuesday. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan honoured the occasion by posting an emotional picture on her Instagram.
The film, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya and Madhuri Dixit, features spectacular cinematography blended with a creative narrative about two loves who can't be united. The film is based on the 1917 book of the same name by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay.
The instant Aishwarya posted the image to her social media accounts, followers swamped her comment board with heart emojis. However, the photo caught the eye of her husband, superstar Abhishek Bachchan, who also replied to her post with a red heart icon.

Devdas, a 2002 film, recounts the life of an affluent law graduate who travels back to India to marry a childhood friend. Unfortunately, their marriage's disapproval sends him down a dark path of alcoholism and mental sorrow.
Aishwarya portrayed Paro, Devdas' childhood sweetheart who marries a much older widower following failing to marry Devdas, who was played by Shah Rukh. Madhuri Dixit played Chandramukhi, Jackie Shroff portrayed Chunni Babu, and Kirron Kher played Paro's mother.
Bhansali and Prakash Ranjit Kapadia wrote Devdas. Many adaptations of Chattopadhyay's work have been made for the silver screen, with filmmaker Bimal Roy's 1955 masterpiece featuring Dilip Kumar with KL Saigal's 1936 adaptation being one of the most well-known. The film made its global debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002. The film was well praised and won several awards, including five National Awards.
Currently, Aishwarya is preparing for the release of Mani Ratnam's next film, Ponniyin Selvan: I. In the film, she will play Nandini, the Queen of Pazhuvoor. The film will be available in theatres on September 30.
